- 1 oz water
- Crushed ice
- Mint sprig, for garnish
- Ice for serving
Simple Syrup Recipe
Simple syrup is a quick and easy way to add sweetness to your cocktails. Here’s how to make it:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
Instructions:
- Combine equal parts water and sugar in a small saucepan.
- Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves completely into the water.
- Cool the syrup to room temperature before using.
- Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a month.
Instructions for the Mint Julep Smash
- Muddle the Mint: In a glass, add the mint leaves and simple syrup. Use a muddler or spoon to gently crush the mint leaves to release their oils. This gives the drink that fresh minty flavor.
- Add Bourbon and Ice: Pour in the bourbon and water, then fill the glass with crushed ice.
- Stir and Garnish: Stir the mixture well to combine the ingredients. Top with more crushed ice and garnish with a fresh mint sprig.
- Serve: Serve immediately with a straw or stirring stick for easy sipping. Enjoy the refreshing flavor!
Chef Paddy’s Tips
- Use **crushed ice** instead of cubed ice to get the proper texture and keep the drink colder longer.
- Adjust the **simple syrup** to taste if you like it sweeter or more balanced.
- For extra freshness, add a small splash of club soda or sparkling water for a fizzy touch.
